
Making Bathroom Heaters That Don’t Blind You
When we design infrared lamps for bathrooms, we’re basically fighting a battle. You want that instant, cozy heat to keep someone warm in a damp room, but you can’t have the light be so bright that it hurts. This is a big deal when you’re thinking about babies and their developing eyes. Standard short-wave lamps are just too harsh—they’re like staring into a spotlight.
Fixing the Glare
So, we changed the way the light works. By playing around with the quartz and adding specific internal coatings, we can block out the blinding visible light and the UV stuff. We push the output toward the mid-to-long wave infrared bands instead. Here’s the trick: these wavelengths still sink into your skin to make you feel warm, but they don’t trigger that “ouch” response in your eyes. It’s just basic physics. We give up a tiny bit of raw heating speed to get a light that feels soft and safe.
Keeping it Dry and Durable
Water and electricity aren’t friends, so the whole thing lives in a waterproof housing to keep the terminals safe. We use high-grade quartz glass because it can handle the shock of going from cold to scorching hot in a split second without cracking. One thing to watch out for: your housing needs to be built for the wattage you’re using. If you cram too many watts into a tiny space, the reflector is going to overheat and start discoloring. Not a great look.
The Honest Trade-off
Because we filter the light, these lamps don’t feel quite as “punchy” as a raw halogen tube if you’re standing far away. You lose that searing, immediate hit of heat. But in a bathroom? That’s exactly what you want. It’s a steady, gentle warmth that doesn’t risk damaging anyone’s eyesight. Just a heads-up—make sure your wiring is beefy enough to handle the initial surge when you first flip the switch.
