
Keeping Things Safe with Ozone-Free IR Lamps in Chemical Zones
If you’re running infrared heaters in a chemical cleaning line, you already know the deal. You’re dealing with flammable vapors and corrosive fluids that just want to eat through your equipment. In a setup like that, a standard IR lamp isn’t just a part—it’s a risk. That’s why we go with ozone-free lamps and specialized encapsulation. It’s all about keeping the heating element from sparking an explosion or just falling apart in a harsh environment. The deal with ozone Here’s the thing about standard shortwave lamps: they pump out UV radiation. When that hits oxygen, you get ozone. In a normal room, that’s one thing. But in a chemical plant? Ozone is a nasty oxidizer. It can mess with your cleaning agents and make things unstable. To fix this, we use quartz tubes with a specific UV-blocking coating. It basically filters out the wavelengths that create ozone. You still get all the heat you need, but without the chemical chaos. Locking it down A bare lamp is basically a spark waiting to happen. We don’t do that. Instead, we seal everything in rugged, heat-resistant quartz or sapphire housings. Think of it as a physical wall between your electrical terminals and those flammable gases floating around your shop. We use high-temp gaskets and reinforced seals to keep the internal vacuum tight. If a seal leaks, the lamp dies fast. Simple as that. The trade-offs Now, there is a catch. Putting a housing around the filament means there’s more material between the heat and your workpiece. You’ll notice a slight dip in how much heat actually hits the target compared to an open-air lamp. It’s not a big deal, but you have to account for it. You might need to bump up the wattage or move the lamp a bit closer to hit your target temperature. These units are built to drop right into your existing chemical baths. Just double-check that your wiring can handle the current and your vents are moving enough air. And a word of advice: don’t try to “fix” the heat loss by over-driving the voltage. You’ll just burn out the lamp. Stick to the specs and you’ll be fine.
