Here is the thing about mirror infrared heaters: they don’t actually “heat the room.” They aren’t like those old-school space heaters that blow warm air around. Finding the “Sweet Spot” for Your Space If you’re dealing with a tiny powder room—you know, those little bathrooms that are barely big enough to turn around in—a single 250W to 400W lamp is plenty. Go any higher and you’ll end up with “hotspots” that feel like a heat lamp at a buffet. Not a great vibe for a morning routine. For a medium-sized bathroom, I’d suggest going with a dual-lamp setup, something in the 800W to 1200W range. If you’ve got a massive master bath, you’ll probably need a few different zones so you don’t end up with freezing corners. The Technical Stuff (Simplified) These things usually use quartz lamps with a halogen fill. The “mirror” part is just a reflector that pushes all that heat straight down. Most of them use R7s or SK15 connectors, which is great because it means you can just pop a new lamp in when the old one dies without needing a degree in electrical engineering. The best part? It’s instant. No waiting for a coil to glow or a fan to kick in. You flip the switch, and you’re warm. But a quick heads-up: higher wattage means a bigger pull on your electricity. If you’re installing four 600W lamps, please, for the love of everything, check your circuit breaker and your wire gauge. You don’t want your wiring overheating before the lamps even get a chance to work. Getting the Placement Right Where you put the heater matters just as much as how powerful it is. Aim for about 2.1 to 2.4 meters from the floor. Too high, and the heat vanishes before it reaches you. Too low, and it feels like you’re standing under a grill.
